Bringing a baby home from the NICU is a milestone filled with both joy and uncertainty. Without the constant support of hospital staff, many families wonder how they will confidently care for their baby’s unique needs.
That very gap in support became the focus of research led by Occupational Therapist Bobbi Pineda, Ph.D., OTR/L, CNT who identified the challenges families face when transitioning home from the NICU. This research led to her 2020 publication: “The Baby Bridge Program: A sustainable program that can improve therapy service delivery for preterm infants following NICU discharge” where Dr. Pineda calls for a safe, supportive transition from the NICU to home for both babies and their families.
Pineda’s research caught the interest of clinical leadership at Therapy 2000 and after learning more about her vision, Therapy 2000 launched its first Baby Bridge – NICU Transition program in 2022 in Fort Worth.
As NICUs began looking for better ways to ensure continuity of care after discharge, the Baby Bridge program at Therapy 2000 quickly became a trusted solution. Partnering with families within 96 hours of discharge from the NICU, specially trained Baby Bridge therapists work closely with parents to build confidence and establish healthy routines that support feeding, movement, and overall development. By coaching caregivers in real-life moments, this program helps turn uncertainty into assurance, empowering families with the knowledge and skills they need to nurture their baby’s growth. Furthermore, to date, this program has a hospital readmission rate of less than 1%.
Gaining recognition from families and NICU departments alike, Therapy 2000 expanded the Baby Bridge program to serve families in the areas of Lubbock in 2024, Dallas, Austin and Houston in 2025 and San Antonio in 2026.
A key part of the program’s ongoing success is the expertise behind it. Therapists for Baby Bridge receive specialty training, mentoring, and ongoing support to ensure they are delivering best practices in infant development and family-centered care. Additionally, in 2026 Therapy 2000 established a partnership with Dr. Brown’s Medical, a division of Handi-Craft Company that develops evidence-based feeding products and training for NICU’s and hospitals, to implement additional training and feeding solutions for the program’s team. This level of innovation and investment in clinicians through Therapy 2000 results in a consistent, high level of care that families and NICU partners trust.
Today, Baby Bridge stands as a testament to what’s possible when research meets compassionate care. Inspired by innovation and driven by outcomes, Therapy 2000’s Baby Bridge program not only supports smoother transitions home but also helps set the foundation for long-term success, for both babies and the families who love them.
