Description:

Join your OT colleagues for guidance and discussion around the decision-making process as it relates to assessment, goal writing and dosage determination. Different types of assessment tools will be addressed, with emphasis on those that aid in discovery of a child’s participation-based needs. These needs, along with the priorities and routines of the family, allow us to establish meaningful goals, and to select the appropriate dosage at any given time in a child’s lifespan. Goal writing will be addressed in detail, with a focus on selecting functional, child/family-specific activities to target and measure. These are the activities that will be most indicative of meaningful change, maintenance, or slowing of decline, depending on the profile of the child and family.

  1. Describe different types of assessments (body structure/function, activity, participation), including when and why to use each type.
  2. Utilize results of participation-based assessments to identify functional and meaningful activities and routines to address in goals.
  3. Write goals in SMART format, with particular emphasis on child/family priorities and routines.
  4. Discuss at least 3 factors to consider when making dosage determinations.

Objectives:

As a result of this training, the participant will be able to:
