Description: The percentage of individuals who suffer from Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) and/or Vestibular disturbances increases with age from 3% at ages 0-19 years old to 50% for those at age 90-100+ years old. It is often misdiagnosed, causing psychological distress and functional disturbances including falls. Vestibular rehabilitation and treatment is an incredible skillset that changes lives every day. The more clinicians trained in this specialty, the better! In this course, we will review the anatomy of the vestibular system, vestibular dysfunction facts, testing types and treatments to better assist the patient population we treat.

Objectives:

Following the training, participants will be able to…

  1. Determine if referring out is most appropriate for central in nature vertigo that cannot be treated with therapy, vs peripheral in nature that can be treated successfully with skilled therapy
  2. Complete a Dix Hallpike maneuver and post CRT for true vertigo depending on the direction of the nystagmus
  3. Evaluate dizziness, vertigo, imbalance with additional tools to rule in or rule out BPPV vs hypoactive labyrinths.
