Speakers: Andrea Bell, MA, CCC-SLP, LSLS Cert AVT

Description:

1-3 children in every 1000 are impacted by hearing loss. Their language progress is greatly impacted by type and degree of loss, hearing technology, intervention, communication methods, and family involvement. Often, speech-language pathologists do not have the formal training to feel confident in supporting the language outcomes of these children. In this course, therapists will learn how to effectively assess children who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, determine prognosis, and support the families’ preferred communication outcome.

Objectives:

As a result of this training, the participant will be able to:

  1. List at least 3 factors that contribute to prognosis for listening and spoken language outcomes
  2. List 3 specific assessments for children who are deaf/hard-of-hearing
  3. Describe the 4 stages in Erber’s auditory hierarchy
