Course Description:

Participants will be educated on in depth clinical feeding assessment writing of the HRI and Medically Fragile Child. The course will begin with synthesizing medical documentation and discharge paperwork from hospital staff and documenting diagnoses. Participants will then complete a thorough medical history, feeding history, assessment oral manual examination, skilled feeding trial, in depth swallowing section (including a bedside examination), and a clinical review of their findings. Participants will also understand “verbiage” to not use and not use in assessments and during goal writing.

 

About Our Speaker:

Courtni Marshall, M.S., CCC-SLP, Advanced Senior Clinical Specialist and Feeding Program Manager of East Texas

Courtni received her B.S. and M.S. at Stephen F. Austin State University. She worked as an SLP-A in her last year of graduate school. Upon graduation she worked in a SNF, hospital, outpatient clinic, and for Therapy 2000. She has worked in pediatrics for the last 8 years and specializes in feeding. She has been a feeding mentor for Therapy 2000 since onboarding and found a true passion for the pediatric feeding population and for teaching her fellow colleagues.

Learner Objectives

  1. Participants will list “verbiage” to not use during evaluations and during writing of goals.
  2. Participants will describe a thorough skilled bedside examination and skilled feeding trial as well as the parent’s role in the skilled feeding trial.
  3. Participants will demonstrate cervical auscultation correctly on another participant in the classroom.
  4. Participants will describe and list the new documentation standards for NMES.
