Management of The Neuromuscular Pediatric and Adolescent Patient for OTs and PTs by Leslie Nelson, PT, OCS from 1-4:10PM
This course is dedicated to educated participants on best practice management for the pediatric and adolescent patient with neuromuscular disease. Participants will be introduced to the most common neuromuscular diseases in the pediatric population. Current standards of care for each disease will be covered as well as principals of therapeutic treatment and intervention for the patient throughout the lifespan and progression of disease. This lecture and seminar course will teach an overview of the therapist’s role in the management of the child with neuromuscular disease.

About Our Presenter: Leslie Nelson, MPT
Leslie Nelson has a broad background in physical therapy practice with specific training and expertise in pediatric and adolescent neuromuscular disease. She currently treats pediatric and adolescent patients with various neuromuscular diseases in a multidisciplinary outpatient clinic. In addition to her clinical expertise, Ms. Nelson has been involved in both investigator-initiated grants and industry sponsored clinical trials, serving as the clinical evaluator for studies involving neuromuscular disorders, specifically, Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (CMD). Over the past nine years, she has been involved in multi-center studies examining outcome measures including strength testing and functional rating scales for individuals with SMA for use in clinical trials. She is actively involved in the International Coordinating Committee for SMA Clinical Trials (ICC) which is an international group of investigators who are working together to improve functional rating scales and identify study endpoints suitable for use in pivotal efficacy studies.
