Meet Ethan: Patient Success Story

Ethan’s Telehealth Occupational Therapy Journey

Ethan is a smart, fun-loving, and active 6-year-old who enjoys bubbles, swimming, and sensory play. A year ago, he began telehealth occupational therapy with Jacie Virgel, OTA, receiving sessions twice a week focused on self-regulation and activities of daily living (ADLs).

From the beginning, Ethan’s mom was an active participant in his therapy. She consistently implemented Jacie’s recommendations for sensory strategies and heavy work tasks to reinforce progress outside of sessions. Through telehealth, Jacie worked closely with the family to

  • Establish a consistent daily routine
  • Actively involve Ethan’s mom in treatment
  • Provide practical, home-based strategies to support Ethan’s development

With this structured approach, Ethan began to show meaningful improvements in self-regulation and a reduction in aggression and behavioral challenges. His mom, determined to help, learned and applied sensory input exercises to support him.

Today, Ethan has made remarkable progress:

  • He can dress himself independently
  • He recognizes when he feels overwhelmed or upset
  • He is learning to seek support instead of experiencing meltdowns

Thanks to consistent therapy, a structured schedule, and integrated sensory activities, Ethan now attends school and only requires therapy once a week — a true success story made possible through telehealth occupational therapy!
