Meet John: Patient Success Story

Check out John on the move – he is so fast and never stops, making it hard for his parents to keep up! But his parents will tell you, they are very grateful for his mobility, even if he tires them out every day, because they know how hard he worked for it. At nine months old, John had been through multiple surgeries and hospitalizations resulting in delayed mobility skills – he was not able to move in the ways other children his age could, such as rolling, sitting, or crawling. He was referred to home health physical therapy with Kelley, and they got right to work!
Kelley focused her plan of care on developing strength and motor control to provide the foundational skills John needed to progress into floor mobility and help him to participate in play activities and daily routines. John’s parents supported his gross motor development between sessions by consistently following through with the home exercise program provided by Kelley. When John struggled to participate with Kelley during therapy sessions, Kelley was able to provide instruction, demonstration, and feedback to his parents to assure John received the intervention he needed – together, they made a great team! John progressed rapidly with the intervention strategies provided by Kelley, which motivated John’s parents to remain diligent in their efforts.
After five months of hard work, John was an unstoppable force that never sat still – he is now able to satisfy his curiosity by exploring his environment and engage socially in play routines with his cousins by chasing balls and trucks around the house! He continues to need physical therapy services to catch up to his peers, but he has made so much progress that his frequency was reduced by half! With a little more hard work, he will be on his way to discharging from therapy services.
