Timothy is a creative, organized five-year-old with a huge imagination! He loves dinosaurs, Minions, and Sonic! Congratulations to Timothy and his family on his exciting progress. When therapy first started, Sheri treated him twice a week, and one of our biggest goals was to increase flexibility, transitions, and self-help skills. At the beginning of treatment, to establish rapport, they played and used dinosaurs to break the ice and begin addressing self-help skills. Sheri and his mom coordinated weekly and adjusted his home program to be able to continue his progression and meet goals. He quickly met his goals and required new focus and goals to be added. At his re-evaluation, he was decreased down to once a week, and he is now discharging!
Therapy helped teach both Timothy and his parents how to help with his transitions and encourage his socialization. He is now communicating his wants and needs and is able to participate in activities outside of the home. Timothy can transition to and from preferred activities with less distress. He is now dressing himself, able to use a spoon and fork to feed himself, and can drink from an open cup. His mom reports that now that he can calm and organize himself so that he communicates better and is more independent with his self-help skills, her days are much smoother. They have been able to participate more freely in family events and activities outside of their everyday norm.
