We Need To Talk: Essentials of AAC

Kathy Clapsaddle, M.S., CCC-SLP will be presenting.

Many children in the home health setting require augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods or devices. With changes in technology and the introduction of iDevices for AAC, there are increased options for meeting these needs. This course is intended to expose therapists to a variety of choices. The course will provide information on strategies and equipment for AAC. The funding and AAC evaluation process will be discussed. The importance of parent education and appropriate goals will also be addressed.

About Our Presenter: Kathy Clapsaddle, M.S., CCC-SLP

Kathy has been an SLP for 14 years and has worked as a therapist, a university instructor, a professional developer and a leader.  She is considered to be a therapy geek by those that know her well, and she currently serves on the editorial board for the journal EBP Briefs.  As a therapist, she is fascinated by the puzzle of children with autism and severe communication impairments and has extensive expertise in assistive technology.  Additionally, as a board member and active volunteer in the Texas Speech Language Hearing Association, she extends her passion and advocacy for our important work across the state.

Course approved for 3 hours TSHA and TOTA.
