THERAPY 2000 and Green Apple Therapy together have announced that they are temporarily discontinuing in-home therapy services and transitioning to Telehealth amidst the continuous spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
“There was a lot of thought that went into this truly heartbreaking decision,” Jerre van den Bent, PT and President of both companies said. “We considered the shelter-in-place orders now issued by several counties, advice from our medical advisors, and the fact that we really haven’t had testing available to know for sure how fast COVID-19 has already spread.”
The agencies intend to focus resources on moving forward with telehealth for all disciplines and interventions for which they can do so effectively, and they will continue to work with industry advocacy groups to urge the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) to allow SLP-Assistants and SLP-Interns to continue serving their patients via Telehealth during this time. Currently, the Texas Speech Therapy Practice Act only allows CCC-SLPs to deliver Speech Therapy via telehealth.
Both agencies remain committed to delivering the highest-quality Speech, Occupational, and Physical Therapy services across Texas, and both understand the importance of service not being disrupted. The organization also remains committed to the safety and health of its employees and clients, and to combatting the spread of this harmful disease.
