Lacey Voss began her career at Therapy 2000 as a new graduate. Like many new clinicians after fieldwork, she had been discouraged to start her career in a home health setting. But, circumstances led her there, and it quickly became a defining and rewarding part of her journey.
Lacey describes being surrounded by strong support from the very beginning. “I was provided with an extensive training program, shadowing OT’s and receiving a mentor to answer all of my questions,” she shares. “I was surrounded by smart OTs who I still call on today.”
She continues to value the culture of collaboration and support, noting that the entire team is always willing to step in with guidance and encouragement when needed. “I was also taught when and why to refer to other disciplines, such as speech therapy and physical therapy,” Lacey remembers. “It was a valuable part of my training.”
Each Day Filled With Variety
Prior to joining Therapy 2000, Lacey completed her fieldwork in a pediatric hospital setting. While her background included traditional pediatric environments like outpatient and hospital care, she has found even greater support within home health than she expected, both from her immediate team and across disciplines.
Furthermore, as a strong advocate for continued learning, Lacey actively pursues ongoing education through Therapy 2000’s sister company Knowledge is Now, helping her stay current and confident in her practice.
A Job with Joy
What she enjoys most about pediatric occupational therapy is the creativity and connection it allows. “I think of what I do as ‘sneaky therapy’ because the children think we’re just playing, but so much growth is happening in those moments.”
She also values the opportunity to support families. “It’s rewarding to help overwhelmed parents feel less overwhelmed and to help them incorporate therapy techniques into everyday routines. Small moments throughout the day can make a big impact.”
For Lacey, occupational therapy is both meaningful and joyful. “It’s so fun to be able to embrace your inner child at work,” she says and it shows in the care she provides every day.
