Misty Forbes, COTA

Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant · Amarillo

Misty is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) with 26 years of experience who found a new pace, and a renewed passion, in pediatric home health. After building her career in hospitals, mental health, and a variety of clinical settings, she joined Therapy 2000 two years ago looking for something different.

“"Home health has given me the flexibility to build a schedule around my family while still doing the work I love. As a working mom, that balance has been invaluable."”

A New Pace for an Experienced Clinician

"After years in the hospital setting, I was ready for a different pace," Misty says. "Home health has given me the flexibility to build a schedule around my family while still doing the work I love. As a working mom, that balance has been invaluable."

One of the things that drew Misty to Therapy 2000 was the ability to choose the patients she felt best equipped to serve. "That was a huge difference for me," she explains. "It allows you to provide the best care possible while continuing to grow as a clinician."

Meaningful Work, Lasting Connections

Although she's worked with patients of every age throughout her career, pediatrics has become especially meaningful. "You build such close relationships with the children and their families," she says. "Families really welcome you into their homes, and over time they begin to treat you like family. That's something you don't experience in every setting."

As a lifelong West Texan, Misty appreciates the lifestyle just as much as the work. She loves the slower pace, the friendly people, and the sense of community that defines the region. "If your car breaks down on the side of the road, someone is going to stop and help," she says. "People really look out for one another here."

She also finds purpose in serving communities where access to pediatric therapy can be limited. "The families here truly appreciate the care they receive because they don't always have easy access to medical services," Misty says. "You know your work is making a real difference."

Misty also values the culture at Therapy 2000. From flexible scheduling to opportunities to connect with coworkers through company events, she feels supported both personally and professionally. "They genuinely want you to be refreshed and engaged."

For clinicians considering West Texas, Misty believes it's a place where you can build a rewarding career while enjoying a better quality of life. With wide-open spaces, a strong sense of community, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, from fishing and ATV trails to nearby mountain getaways in New Mexico, it's a place where work and life feel balanced.
