✦ Spotlight on Our Team

Highlighting the staff that make a difference in both our company and the children and families we support.

Rachel Spillane, CCC-SLP

Speech-Language Pathologist · East Texas

For Rachel, speech-language pathology is about helping children find their voice, and everything that comes with it.

“"My patients may be farther apart geographically, but the drive time is often the same because I'm not sitting in traffic," she said. "And the scenery is a lot prettier."”

“We all use communication every day,” she said. “It affects our relationships, our confidence, our overall well-being. Communication gives people the ability to advocate for what they want and need.”

Finding Her Way Back to Home Health

Rachel has been a speech-language pathologist for 11 years and has spent the last two years with Therapy 2000. While her path briefly took her away from the company, it ultimately led her back.

After leaving to work in a school setting, Rachel quickly realized what she missed most about home health: flexibility, support, and the opportunity to directly benefit from the effort she puts into her work.

“In home health, the work you put in is reflected in your earnings. That’s really motivating because you have more control over your schedule and your success.”

A Different Pace of Life in East Texas

Today, Rachel serves families throughout East Texas, a region she has grown to love after previously living in a much larger city.

“The quality of life here is so much better,” she said. “The cost of living is lower, there’s no traffic, and I’m able to do things here that I couldn’t afford when I lived in the city.”

While rural therapy often means traveling between communities, Rachel says the reality isn’t much different from practicing in an urban area.

“My patients may be farther apart geographically, but the drive time is often the same because I’m not sitting in traffic,” she said. “And the scenery is a lot prettier.”

She also appreciates that East Texas offers the best of both worlds.

“We’re only an hour or two from major metropolitan areas, so if we want access to the city, it’s there. But day-to-day, we get to enjoy a slower pace of life.”

Celebrating Progress, Big and Small

That balance extends to her work as well. Rachel loves pediatrics because every day brings the opportunity to witness meaningful progress.

“You really get to see the growth in a child,” she said. “Whether it’s a new sound, a new word, or a child learning to express their needs, those moments are incredibly rewarding.”

Support That Keeps Her Connected

One misconception Rachel often hears about home health is that clinicians work in isolation. Her experience has been the exact opposite.

“Home health gets a bad rap for being lonely, but I’ve never felt that way here,” she said. “We have regular meetups, great support systems, and constant communication with our team. I always know there’s someone I can call if I need help.”

That sense of connection is one of the reasons she chose to return to Therapy 2000.

“The company has a great reputation, and after coming back, I understand why,” she said. “The support is real. The flexibility is real. And the culture makes it a place where people want to stay.”

For Rachel, East Texas and home health have proven to be the perfect combination, offering professional fulfillment, personal freedom, and the chance to make a lasting difference in the lives of children and families every day.
