Speaker:  Jennifer Lawson, OTR, MS

Course Location:

2535 Lone Star Dr.
Dallas, TX 75212

Course Description:

Given the rapid evolution and emergence of information related to diagnosis, assessment and treatment for Autism Spectrum Disorders, formulating effective comprehensive intervention plans can be quite challenging.  Join Jennifer Lawson, occupational therapist, for a full day of training dedicated to exploring the complexities of Autism Spectrum Disorder, in order to maximize the use of evidence based practice in assessment and intervention with children and their families.  This training is appropriate for professionals who have at least a basic understanding of the features, needs and challenges associated with the diagnosis of ASD and/or prior experience working with children with this diagnosis.

Current statistics regarding the prevalence & incidence of ASD, trends in diagnosis, as well as the potentially related genetic & environmental factors will be discussed. Course participants will learn tools for implementation of evidence-based programs, practices, and interventions – those that have an established research base, as well as those that are emerging as promising practice.  This training will also focus on how we, as healthcare professionals, can support families through our interventions as well as community resources, and how we can encourage and support a proactive approach as children move into adolescence and young adulthood.

Regardless of your professional role in the life of a child with ASD, this training will provide you with a valuable framework and a variety of skills and resources to pull from in order to do what you do more effectively and more confidently.
